So it’s the penultimate night before breaking ground at my first #rhschelsea show!

1. Our home for the next 28 days
2. Yep that’s our plot a flag that marks it on an empty field
3. But it began with a scribble of an idea. And within that scribble a woman hugging a baby formed. No intention but it would form the layout and narrative of what’s to come….
4. Call Charlie @charliewhinneystudio this garden needs curves and flow so what better than steam bent wood and who better than him!
5. The smallest first model is made a talking point for us using wood shavings glued together. But I could see he knew what I wanted.
6. More talking and the idea develops…dare we show @hmonckton Director of PR at @the_rhs ?
7. A moment to reflect for inspiration
8. Back to the proverbial drawing board to start developing a layout
9. A bit more to do to bring the model alive before presenting to Sue Biggs Director General of @the_rhs - will she say yes…..???

Over the next few weeks I will try to share the backstory, insights and importantly the amazing team of people who will bring this garden to life…..next stop…bed!

This weekend we had a 2 night staycation with my lovely friend Sue in Deal. I have visited her for many years and now it’s great that my partner and the step children have grown to love it to.

Deal values independent boutiques and one of the latest is @thegreenandfound a beautiful concept store opposite Walmer Castle.

Adolfo & James were so welcoming letting me snap pics whilst chatting. The retail landscape is changing with so many shops closing after the pandemic, it’s important to keep neighbourhoods alive with creativity and inspiration and a store like this does just that.

It’s curated for considered purchases. Clearly celebrating plants as the unifier of the interior and exterior of our homes (Green) and well sourced objets from antique to artists (Found)

Finally I got to visit my friend Ronnie at her dream shop @mrs_lang1 . So creative her fantastic eye for detail knows how to turn ordinary into extraordinary - yes you’ve seen me wear her jackets. Recycled vintage items are reinvented into forever pieces. (Picture 6)

And showcasing her work alongside Ronnie is @lisataylor_design. My partner in crime in my fashion days Lisa now has her own collection of carefully selected vintage saris that she designs into statement pieces. Most items are unique giving the wearer their own identity and confidence to wear colour well. (Pic 7)

So why talk about these people? In a world that has become homogeneous on many levels with product saturation, being different becomes more difficult. With the need for us consume less how do we do it?

Considered purchases that you enjoy but importantly view, use and wear every day. By following a “slow fashion” movement and supporting small business to help differentiation and keeping unit buys minimal.

Saturday morning I put work down and the chores we

Saturday morning I put work down and the chores went on hold whilst we took ourselves off for some roller action.

Met up with @skatewavesupreme who adjusted my new @moxirollerskates which I have waited to have for so long…and oh my gosh they were worth it!!

An hour of top tips and techniques still boils down to one thing…practice practice practice! And I know that to up my game…I’m going hit that deck. 😳

Mature bones on concrete is not something one does lightly, but in the spirit of progression….I will adorn my safety gear at all times, and just hope that someone comes to my aid once flaying on the floor!

So people, the road to #chelseaflowershow is ahead and I’ll be sharing updates in the coming weeks.

But in the meantime I must keep getting out on my skates and embrace my inner child and skate like no one is looking!!

I remember when I first came onto Instagram when I had just started out on my garden career. I would post pics and as it wasn’t a private account I was a little perplexed as to why I didn’t have anyone “like” anything. My main reason to use #instagram was a place to post the many photographs that I take. The “like thing” was surely just a bonus? That said a friend pointed out that my privacy settings were so tight I was on a lonely road 😔 AND I didn’t use hashtags! I thought # was something you had with a cooked breakfast 😂

I don’t prolifically post but after all these years I’m very appreciative of anyone who follows my account and reads my wittering and hopefully likes my photos.

I don’t know about you but life isn’t always “Insta”. There’s a bit of reflection, time, selection oh and work that is the breathing space before the photos jump from camera roll to the grid.

In this selection it’s a yellow theme emerging starting with the magnificent Rudbeckia maxima holding itself well in @tomstuartsmith Paradise Garden @rhsbridgewater. I was lucky enough to visit just after Tatton.

The borders in this garden were really giving a display and although the rest of the grounds are relatively new, you can absolutely see where the road to maturity is heading! 🍀

Just going through my @the_rhs #hamptoncourtflowershow pictures and found some that I took of @tomstuartsmith garden. Congratulations Tom 🎉 not only for being this years RHS Iconic Horticultural Hero but for also supporting @sunnysiderural trust, a charity and social enterprise established to train adults with learning difficulties in various rural activities, particularly horticulture. With the help of Toby & Chris Marchant the team at Sunnyside grew all of the herbaceous plants - no mean feat.

My goddaughter Charlotte has learning difficulties and I am so happy she is going to an academy that will help her achieve a recognised qualification in the hotel industry.

These training centres are vital in making sure EVERYONE gets a chance to learn, earn and hopefully have fun.

Chance meetings….or are they? I had a box of Bi

In my last post I talked about being in the flow.

In my last post I talked about being in the flow. But then there’s being in the moment. Although I know the clue is in the name “Insta-gram” it’s rare I would ever post instantly. (Hope that’s not an SM crime!)

Taking a picture takes you out of the moment to catch the moment, therefore posting the moment at the time means I’ll no doubt miss the moment! Yep that’s a lot of moments.

I used to do healing work and using flowers was one nature “tool” we would use. The highest vibrational expression of the plant. Taking a huge amount of energy to create - but exudes beauty and entices us to connect with the qualities of the plant. Walking around @the.garden.house with the most amazing light was meditative and restorative in itself.

I hope these few pics of flowers still hold their healing quality for you to receive 🌸🌸🌸

There are just those moments in life when you’re

There are just those moments in life when you’re in the flow - do you know what I mean? I’ll share an example. Booking slots to see suppliers, colleagues and visit gardens was proving to be a challenge. I’d chosen the only day when the team at #edulis wouldn’t be there. The lovely @mark_diacono was busy on a shoot, wonderful @jekkamcvicar wasn’t home and we was too early for #Wildside open day. Hmm you may think give up, the flow is not with you. But that is not what @studio_ikram and I can do!

The flow then started as although normally closed the great team @panglobalplants very kindly said we could visit as they were working on the nursery. Hurrah! They were on our list - all is well. The sat nav was not in the flow but we made it later than planned and got some fantastic plants at the nursery.

And our timetable should have meant we could also make the Garden House in Devon to!
Traffic and time bandits tried to stop us but by going “with the flow” knowing there was the slimmest of chances of making it we carried on.

And like a beacon at the end of a long day the garden was waiting for us bathed in “golden hour” light….and the angel on the desk let us in!! 😇

We then proceeded to float around this stunning garden getting double does of Vitamin N feeling blessed 🙏🏽

So even when the odds feel like they’re stacked against you keep going. The kindness of others made our day💫❤️💫

I hope the pics on the grid hold some of the magic of the garden for you to share 🌸🌸🌸

In my experience so far gardens are created by a team of people. Even when you’re pottering on your own patch, a nursery team have grown the plants you buy, your tools have been made by others, or you’ve asked a friend for advice.

Don’t get me wrong the plants are our stars and all of the biodiversity they bring, but there is people intervention to. And if you can get it all to harmonise it makes for a happy garden.

It’s a huge honour therefore to be part of a team that will create a garden on behalf of @bbctheoneshow and the @the_rhs - A Garden of Hope.

Central to all of this is the Rosewood Mother and Baby Unit @kmpt_nhs where it will live after #chelseaflowershow this September 2021.

I’m incredibly privileged to be in the very safe hands of @markgregory1960 and @landformuk who are the master landscapers who’s expertise is world class!

@charliewhinneystudio is the amazing talent behind the steam bent structure -
the backbone of the garden creating the sense of a hug.

@studio_ikram will be bringing her passion for plants and flower show experience to guide the Hort. team for the all important onsite planting.

@hmonckton and her PR team work behind the scenes ensuring all the communication, and connectivity across all teams is seamless.

And thanks to @rachel_sampson_design for the beautiful illustration of my vision 💚

Today I was honoured to be the host for the openin

Today I was honoured to be the host for the opening of the Blossom Garden at the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park in Stratford, London.

The project, set up by @mayorofldn with @nationaltrust was created to pay respect to more than 19,000 Londoners who have died from coronavirus.

@edible_bus_stop in collaboration with @davies_white davies_white landscape architects were commissioned to create the design. Their deep understanding of nature, people and place making made them the perfect choice for this very special memorial garden.

33 blossom trees are planted to represent the 32 London boroughs and the City of London. It’s a place to remember those passed and where to give thanks to London’s key-workers who worked tirelessly to care for us, feed us and keep London going.

The Blossom will be there each March the time we went into the first lockdown, a poignant time.

This memorial garden embodies nature at its heart and each year will get better and better. Life is not static so to see this place change in time will be a reflection of the change we go through.

Local artists and suppliers created the fabulous benches for everyone to enjoy.

This garden is to be used by all. A garden for the people gifted by nature 🌸🌸🌸

There will be more gardens to come around the UK 🌸

Thank goodness we are surrounded by people who share. This picture arrived in my WhatsApp from my lovely client who continually shares the garden I designed for her.

Arriving to a ”blank canvas” is exciting and daunting all at the same time. What will emerge from the land that feels right for all?

The landscapers, gardeners’ and I don’t live there so we have to hope the garden is continually giving joy whilst functioning as a space for wildlife to.

In design we talk of the borrowed view. Couldn’t ask for more from a view like this one - thank you to the mature oak trees already there for the garden to nestle against. And the rainbow? Well that’s just heaven sent! 🙏🏽🌈🙏🏽

Tonight’s episode explains what peat is, and why it’s so incredibly important to keep it in the ground and not to extract it.

I visit Cumbria one of my favourite landscapes to talk to the Snr Reserve Manager @naturalengland Roudsea Woods & Mosses nature reserve.

I won’t give all the reasons in this post but urge you to watch the show and tell your friends and family what you learn.
